Winter Nourish Season

Hi all,

I had to write this as everywhere I look, I'm being bombarded with the latest fad in the "New Year Detox"  routine! Let's not be puppets in the capitalist world of big companies selling yet more products.  This is not the best time of year to perform a detox routine as we are still in the middle of Winter and our bodies need nourishing and warmth, from clean foods, roots and broths. Yes, you can ease off the traditional festive foods and ease the burden on your digestive system, but now is not the time for a fast and lots of cold raw foods and juices.

Get in tune with the seasons and your body and mind will thank you for it. Spring and the change of the seasons is a time when the earth provides us specific nutrients and elements  to assist cleansing and I'll be holding my Group Cleanse workshop, where I'll teach you about the concept of cleansing and how to use foods and herbs to assist in this. Tune in for upcoming 2016 dates!

Until then;

  • Eat more Root Vegetables; beetroot, sweet potato, carrots, butternut squash, celeriac
  • Eat healthy fats: coconut oil, olive oil, ghee, small amounts of good butter
  • Use Warming Spices like ginger, chilli, garlic, cumin,  cardamon and pepper
  • Winter Greens like Kale and brussel sprouts are in season, rich in minerals and vitamins
  • Include Immune supporting herbs like thyme, rosemary, sage, cinnamon, elderberries, shitake, goji berries and astragalus
  • Shift from refined sugars to natural(stewed apple, cacao, maple syrup) and limit those
  • Avoid cold raw foods..cleanse with broths and if juicing, balance your juices with plenty of ginger!
  • Take some time for introspection...limit screen time in the evening, and get some extra sleep!

Have a  Happy and Healthy Year ahead grin
